Protests and Closure on Highway 1

Protests and Closure on Highway 1

Protests and Closure on Highway 1

Traffic is being disrupted on the transpeninsular highway between Punta Colonet and San Quintin by protesting agricultural workers. (For more information about the protest, please click here.)  Reports are that the protesters are volatile and passing without their permission will not be accepted.  Driving through this stretch of highway should be avoided.  The US State Department has issued a warning for all US citizens driving in Baja and that warning can be read here.  The alternative is to enter Mexico through Mexicali and travel along Highway 5 and the Sea of Cortez until you connect with Highway 1 in the town of Chapala.  This route will bypass the disputed part of the Highway 1.
